SHERMAN, TX - One local group is encouraging texomans to get out and go for a ride. Texoma Cycling held a picnic at Pecan Grove Park today to launch their new cycle club. Food, fellowship, and a group ride was included. Local cyclist, Tex Ruegg, says it great for those just starting out. "It's very easy to join and start with some people who already have a little experience ride and kinda get used to it and then you can progress to the next level with a different group that rides a little faster a little longer." Ruegg said. Several people signed up today and a few families signed their kids up too. Some are cycling enthusiasts that have been riding for years and some are beginners looking for group structure and motivation. Becky McClellan is one of those beginners. "I've been intimidated about it too I haven't done a whole lot of group rides just because I've been intimidated that I am a new rider." said McClellan. McClellan says although she's a new rider she's excited to get started in the club because she feels the group dynamic will help her in more ways than one. "Be a little bit more motivated to get out there and do a little bit more to go a little bit further and try a little bit harder and keep up with the rest of the group." said McClellan. The club already has 2 established rides on wednesday and thursday evenings. Ruegg leads one of them. He says they're "no Drop" rides where no one is left behind which makes them perfect for beginners. "For those who are just starting it's really great to join the club because there's a lot of various rides for different levels of cyclists." said Ruegg. Ruegg says the club will continue to add rides as membership increases. For more information visit www.texomacycling.com
