This is a slow 14 mile “no-drop” (meaning no one will be left behind) social ride for all levels (beginners are especially welcome). The route is a 14 mile loop with a few moderate hills that may be challenging for some first time riders. I will have loopback options for shorter distances if requested. We will ride rain or shine (but not if there is lightning …I’m not THAT crazy!).
This is a reoccurring weekly ride that is open to all riders of all levels and will continue all summer and into the fall as long as people are interested in riding. The only requirement is a bike and a helmet. If you would like to join us please just show up. Wheels roll at 5:30 pm.
Social Ride:
- Start time: 6:00pm
- Distance: 15 - 30 miles (see calendar for this weeks distance options)
- Start Location: Texoma Bicycle Works, 5629 Texoma Pkwy - Sherman
- Contact: Charlie Jenkins - sk8erbyker@gmail.com 903.624.1200, 903.893.2453 or 903.893.5293
- Notes: Meet at the bike shop early enough to get you & your bike prep'ed & ready to start the ride at 6pm sharp.
- This is a year-round ride. During Daylight Savings time, we vary the distance to maximixe the available daylight. During standard time (winter), we ride in the dark with lights. The distance(s) vary depending on the daylight available & the weather. Through the winter, we generally ride 15-20 miles. Through the Daylight Savings months, we change the ride to a daylight ride. We increase the mileage as the daylight hours increase. Riders are invited and welcome to stay for coffee after the ride, in the bike shop. Or, we may choose for an optional stop for coffee at Hastings or Starbucks during the ride. This is a popular & regular stop when it's dark & cold...not so regular when it's hot :-)
- This will be a group social ride, the pace will be casual to intermediate.
- All riders must be 18 years or older
- All riders should already have some experience riding on the road & in traffic
- All riders must be TCC (Texoma Cycling Club) members, or sign a waiver at every ride. However, membership is affordable & easy. TCC membership is $20 annually.
- All TCC members also receive a generous discount at Texoma Bicycle Works, on everything: bikes, parts, accessories, clothing, service...everything!
- This ride is appropriate for most riders with a road bike & minimal fitness. You should already be familiar with riding on the road and comfortable with minimal interaction with light traffic. Average speed is usually 15-16 mph. Nobody riding at or close to this target speed will get dropped, or ride alone off the back.
Intermediate Ride:
- Start time: 8:00 am
- Distance: 40+ miles (see calendar and/or GoogleGroups posts for this week's distance & route)
- Location: Albertson's - 100 E. Taylor St, Sherman, TX
- Ride Leader: Richard Boren - rmboren@gmail.com
- Notes: Park & meet in the northeast corner of the lot. Arrive at Albertsons early enough to get you & your bike prep'ed & ready to start the ride at 9:00. Initially, the ride will be 40 miles. Expect the distance to increase as the season progresses. There will be options to stop & refuel at convenience stores (or similar) along the way, approximately every 20 miles or so.
This is an intermediate level ride. Expect about ~15-16 mph average or so. We will regroup as necessary. Our policy for this ride is to regroup frequently enough to ensure nobody riding at or close to this target speed will get dropped, ride alone off the back, or get lost. If you will be riding considerably faster or slower than the target pace, please bring a map and/or cue sheet, or be familiar with the route.
